How will Brown's win affect health reform? (How should we proceed from here?)
(published 1-Feb-2010, Appleton Post-Crescent)
Some say that Scott Brown's election makes President Obama a lame duck already. Obama even said to Diane Sawyer, “I’d rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president.” The Republican win in Massachusetts, while unusual for such a reliable blue state, is just another result of the electorate being pushed too far too fast. After Obama was elected, one got the impression that the Democrats said, "Oh boy! Now we can really go to town!" ... that is, "fix" everything. They forgot former Presidential candidate Harry Browne's great observation: "Government breaks your leg, hands you a crutch, and says, 'See? Because of the government you're better off!'" After a year people aren't better off and they're blaming the government in the person of President Obama. How mad are they? They're so mad that the Republicans could have won Ted Kennedy's Senate seat with a trained seal.

Re: Recent commentary: what does Scott Brown's win mean?
As long as we're assigning blame/giving credit here, how about the Democrats running a trained seal instead of a real candidate? While I think Brown would have been narrowly elected regardless, it didn't help that the person annointed to assume The Senate Seat Of The Kennedy In Massachusetts was abysmally lackluster and stupendously unprepared.

Colonel,
I know next to nothing about Coakley. I'll take your word for it on the "lackluster" and other comments.
Speaking of Coakley, I was amused by this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrB1oD3Ex1M
